Hiring Licensed Battlefield Guides
Licensed Guides are available at the Gettysburg National Park Service Visitor Center on Baltimore Street on a first come, first served basis. The Visitor Center is open daily 8 am to 7 pm during the summer, 8 am to 6 pm during the spring and fall and 8am to 5 pm other times (closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Years Day). Guides are occasionally also located at the Association Headquarters on Steinwehr Avenue at Patriot's Point, and the West End Guide Station on U.S. 30.
Guides are extremely popular. During busy times of the year it is not uncommon to have all available tours gone early in the day. If you wish to obtain Guide services it is best to arrive at the Visitor Center as early in the day as possible. The center opens its doors at 8 AM and Guide services are scheduled immediately. Generally, by 10 AM there will be a wait. By 2 PM it may be impossible to schedule a Guide for later in the day as all available times are booked. If you desire a specialized custom tour of the town or the battlefield please contact the ALBG directly.
Disclaimer: The Main Street Gettysburg program recently
established a "Licensed Town Guide" program which they operate.
They appear to have confused visitors to the area who desire the
services of a traditional Licensed Battlefield Guide. Battlefield Guide
tours - which have included the town of Gettysburg since the beginning,
are only offered by individuals tested and licensed by the National
Park Service. Guides are available
through the National Park Service Visitor Center for tours of the
battlefield (including the town). Please be certain of who's services
you are booking when making a reservation.
