July 29, 2014 "Everything You Can See In The Cyclorama"

This tour will start at the Pennsylvania Monuent and include approximately one mile of easy walking. We will discuss everything pictured in The Battle of Gettysburg cyclorama by Paul Philippoteaux. We will talk about the farms, units, officers, and terrain of Gettysburg. This tour will use the Cyclorama to discuss the way in which the battle was interpreted in the late 1800's. The painting also reveals some of the ways in which the battlefield has changed over the years. Finally, we will discuss some of the things the artist "got right" and "got wrong" in his recreation of Pickett's Charge.
