George C. Symons – LBG #104

George Symons passed away at the age of 78 after a battle with prostate cancer, January 3, 2016  He had been in declining health for several years.  Born August 28, 1937, he was a military veteran serving as a Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps. George was licensed in May of 1994 and awarded Badge No. 104. He was a well-liked guide full of stories and knowledgeable on a wide variety of topics well beyond the scope of the Civil War and Battle of Gettysburg.  No food tray or leftover was safe while George was in the guide room and his ability to put down food was legendary.  Unfortunately he had no family in the area and his closest relative was believed to have been a nephew who lives in Florida. He was buried in Section 24-E, Site 228 – Indiantown Gap National Cemetery following a brief memorial service.
