John Patrick “Jack” Lynch – LBG #132

John Patrick “Jack” Lynch, 84, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at the Gettysburg Lutheran Home Jack is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jean, of Gettysburg, and his son, James, daughter in law, Alane, and granddaughters, Katherine and Grace of Allentown. Jack was born in New York City, attended NYC public schools, and graduated in 1950 from the New York State Maritime College at Fort Schuyler. In 1958 he received his Master Degree from Columbia University an earned his professional Engineers License. Following his service in the U.S. Navy, Jack worked for the Bureau of Ships, the civilian branch of the U.S. Navy responsible for designing and building ships. The majority of his career was spent working at the David Taylor Naval Research Laboratory in Maryland. After 40 years with the Navy, Jack retired to Gettysburg where in  April of 1995 he earned his Guide License.  He spent 15 years as a Licensed Battlefield Guide retiring at the close of the 2009 guide season. Jack enjoyed playing golf, sailing, crossword puzzles and reading, especially history and Civil War books. Most important to him was his family. Always actively involved in his church, he served on Council, taught Sunday School and was church Treasurer for many years including Treasurer of ELCA Region 8 in Gettysburg. While living in Maryland, he was a founding member of a mission congregation in Laurel. A viewing will be held from 3-5 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 3, 2014 at Monahan Funeral Home, Gettysbugr. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, August 4, 2014 at Christ Lutheran Church, 44 Chambersburg Street, Gettysburg with Rev. Stephen Herr officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Gettysburg. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Christ Lutheran Church, 44 Chambersburg Street, Gettysburg PA 17325.
