John Anthony “Tony” Brogan – LBG #129

John Anthony ‘Tony’ Brogan: Born in Washington, D.C. on 5 April 1956, died of a heart attack on 2 August 2009, aged 53, in York. Tony grew up in Ridgewood, NJ, graduated from Mount Carmel School, Ridgewood, in 1970, St. Joseph’s High School, Montvale, NJ, in 1974, Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster, with honors in 1978 and New York Law School in 1981. Son of the late J. Ferris Brogan of Wyckoff NJ and Patricia Sponsler Brogan of Gettysburg, Stepson of June Brogan of Wyckoff, NJ Grandson of the late John A Brogan Jr and Marie Ferris Brogan, formerly of Ridgewood, NYC and Spring Lake NJ. Grandson of George Shealer and the late Bea Shealer and “aunt” Martha Strausbaugh of GB. Brother of Kathleen Miller and her husband Harvey of Reno, Nev. and Ann and her husband Allen Barbi of Dover NH, Uncle and Aunt, John A. and Didi Brogan of Satzvey, Germany, In laws Glenn, MaryAnne, Jeff and Cara Barbi of Hillsdale, NJ. Altar boy, Eagle Scout, honor student, Licensed Battlefield Guide and attorney, He became the youngest person to ever receive a federal guide license at the age of 20 in 1975 earning Badge #129. Tony battled bipolar illness for 24 years. He had a wide range of interests, including the Civil War, 1950’s culture, the Vietnam conflict, all sorts of music, movies and old cars. He enjoyed the company of his wide circle of friends, who along with his family will miss him forever. Tony had a deep and abiding faith in Jesus Christ and His teachings. Memorial services were held Friday, 11 Sept at 10 am at the Brethren in Christ Church 301 Maple Ave, Hanover, PA 17331. In lieu of flowers, please send donations either to the Brethren in Christ Church at the above address or to the Association fo Battlefield Guides, Jim Clouse/Library Fund, P.O. Box 4152, Gettysburg, PA 17325. Tony was cremated and his ashes spread in the battlefield he loved on Little Round Top.
