He was the loving husband of Bonnie (Daer) Laughman. Born July 20, 1932 in New Oxford, he was a son of the late Maurice and Alma Estella (Young) Laughman of Greensprings Road. During the Korean War, he served four years on a Navy destoyer as a radarman and eight years in the reserves. Herb attended Clarion College and received his masters degree at Duquesne University. He retired from Upper Adams School District as a social studies teacher with 35 years of service. With his passion for history, he became a battlefield guide in Gettysburg upon retirement. Herb was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener. He kept bees, made maple syrup and took care of his many animal friends. He loved being outdoors. He was a member of Gettysburg Presbyterian Church, as well as the VFW, American Legion, NRA, Battlefield Guide Association, and the Baykin Spaniel Society. In addition to his wife Bonnie, Herb is survived by two sisters, Edith Shepard and her husband Bob, and Shirely Nunemaker; two brothers, Donald Laughman and his wife Linda, and Lester Laughman and his wife Veronica; one sister-in-law Nancy Laughman; as well as many nieces and nephews. Herb is also survived by three step-children, Linda Churchel, Raymond Manganaro and his wife Carole, and Luann Ferkatch and her husband Matthew; as well as eight step-grandchildren; and 14 step-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Herb was preceded in death by his first wife Charlotte (Manganaro) Laughman; two brothers, Maurice John Laughman and Charles Laughman; as well as one sister Lillian Small. A memorial celebration for Herb will be held on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Gettysburg Presbyterian Church, 208 Baltimore St., Gettysburg, PA 17325, with the Rev. Dr. David Wright officiating. Following the service, military honors will be rendered by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Herb’s memory to the church at the above address, or to the American Cancer Society, 924 N.
